Free haircuts for Moody High School boys attending Special Hearts Prom
Kneeling down till his eyes were level with his student’s, Wayne Bursey held BJ Ramirez’s hands in his.
“Just one minute BJ,” Bursey said as he calmed the Moody High School special education student as he received a free haircut from a barber with the Chop Shop.
He was one of 17 boys in the special education and adaptive education unit to receive a haircut in preparation for the 15th annual Special Hearts Prom on Wednesday.
Each year the prom, celebrates the students in special education classes at the high school and parents, teachers and students volunteer to plan the event. Students throughout the high school are selected to escort the honorees and celebrate with them.
While the boys received free haircuts, the girls get their makeup done by Aveda the morning of the prom. A variety of local businesses also support the prom, including H-E-B, Tuxedo Junction and Janet’s Cakery, Principal Sandra Clement said.
