AWF hosts second Special Needs Summer Camp

ALABASTER – The Angel Warriors Foundation of Alabaster recently finished its second annual Special Needs Summer Camp, which took place on weekdays from Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 29.

Camp Director Amy Hendrix said the camp served seven campers with special needs and was held at Meadow View Elementary School. Hendrix said the purpose of the camp was to provide a safe and fun summer camp experience for those with special needs in the Shelby County area.

“Our goal for the camp is for our participants to have to go to just be themselves,” Hendrix said.

According to Hendrix, each week had a different theme. The first week featured a camping theme, the second week was science themed and the third week was beach themed.

“Everything was related around that one theme each week,” Hendrix said.
